Louise

My career in dental assisting began in 1990 when I graduated from the NAIT Dental Assisting Program. I spent the next ten years experiencing every aspect in the field of general dentistry and worked with a variety of dentists. In my tenth year, I moved to Phoenix and took a leave of absence for 12 years to raise my family. Afterwards, I decided to return to dental assisting and went back for recertification.

At the time I received my certification, my younger son was seeing Dr. Bleau as a patient. He encouraged me to get my orthodontic certification as well. In 2013, I told Dr. Bleau that I wanted to work with the best. I started working with him at Accent Orthodontics in May 2013, and have been going strong ever since. I work with an amazing team and couldn't imagine myself working anywhere else!

What I love the most about working in the field of orthodontics is seeing the amazing results that we achieve with the Damon® Smile braces or Invisalign®. It is very rewarding to see the joy and beautiful smiles on our patients at the end of their treatment. I have been an orthodontic assistant for 30 years and have worked with Dr. Bleau at Accent Orthodontics for almost six years. Our team is made up of a group of dedicated and skilled people who seem more like my family than just coworkers.

When I am not in the office assisting, I enjoy being active taking Tai Chi classes, golfing with my husband, as well as in a Ladies League and walking our dog, Mulligan. We also have a son who is in his final year of engineering at the U of C. Time does fly by! My other interests include travelling, attending Theatre Calgary, watching “MasterChef” or “Chopped” and trying out new gluten free recipes, as well as cheering on the Flames and Stamps.

I was born and raised in Winnipeg and moved to Calgary in 2006. My post-secondary journey started at the University of Manitoba. I then got the travel bug and decided to backpack Australia. When it was time to go back to school, I decided to take the dental assisting program at Columbia College. I have had a passion for helping people since I was little; dental assisting and working with people is one way I can do just that. I have been working for Dr. Bleau for a year now, and I thoroughly enjoy working in orthodontics.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, camping, and reading a good book.

Lucy

I grew up in Calgary, Alberta and took my post-secondary education in Edmonton, Alberta. I graduated from dental hygiene in 1990 and worked as a hygienist for 15 years before I switched to orthodontics. As a healthcare professional, I love seeing a difference we make in people's lives. It is fascinating to see patients' confidence and self-esteem grow from the time they walk into our office to when they leave with a functional, gorgeous smile. That is what makes work so fun!

My knowledge in the orthodontic field has grown considerably by attending the Damon® Orthodontic Forum every year as well as the American Association of Orthodontics Convention. Dr. Bleau, being one of the first orthodontist in Calgary using Damon braces, has given us years of experience in this most up-to-date technology. Our patients are so lucky to experience meticulous care with Dr. Bleau and be treated like friends and family in our close-knit office.

Aside from orthodontics, my greatest passion is my family. The little, everyday moments in life are so special since my daughters are growing up before my eyes (one in university and one in grade 11). I also have a puppy named Sam, who is the little boy I never had. When it’s summer time, we spend it all at the lake!

Suzana

I have been working at Accent Orthodontics since 2011 and truly enjoy every moment working with patients, seeing the final result of a beautiful smile and confidence it brings to them. I earned my degrees in dentistry at the University of Belgrade (Doctor of Dental Surgery and Master of Science). After coming to Canada, I’ve continued working in dental assisting with the same enthusiasm for providing good care and building relationships with our patients.

As a passionate marathon runner who was able to finish ten marathons in four years, I believe that every goal is possible to accomplish. That is why I like to work with Dr. Michael Bleau. He is dedicated to every patient, has such a positive attitude, and takes great care of our patients.

Apart from working and running marathons, I enjoy swimming, weight lifting, dancing Zumba, biking, and reading. Meanwhile, I spend as much time as I can with my grandkids, playing with them and being proud to be part of their childhood. I almost forgot that I like painting! If I can steal a moment of silence during the night, I love to create a spectrum of vibrant colors on canvas.

As our financial administrator, I am responsible for managing the financial, administrative, and clerical tasks at Accent Orthodontics, and ensure effective, efficient, and accurate financial and administrative operations. I have years of experience as a bookkeeper and hold an Applied Business Technology Accounting Certificate. I specialize in business administration and organizational development, and have supported many organizations in that regard.

When I’m not in the office, I can be found fishing, biking, and hiking in and around the beautiful Bulkley Valley.

Donna

I am in my 36th year of dental assisting with 24 of those years being orthodontic certified. I love the challenges that dentistry provides, but especially working with patients who are uncomfortable in the dental chair and need extra special care to help them through each appointment. It is very rewarding to watch them progress to be happy and confident knowing in some small way I was a part of it. I also have a CPR certificate and am renewing my level-one first aid, as I think it is important to have basic lifesaving skills; you never know when they might be needed!

I have a great family: a daughter and son-in-law who are both 27 and a son who is 24. My husband and I love to travel, ski, camp, bike, and boat, and feel very fortunate that our “kids” join us on many of our outdoor adventures. I am also an avid reader and read daily.

I was a dentist in the Philippines before we migrated to Canada in 2005. I started working with Dr. Bleau in 2008. I'm a CDA with an orthodontic module. In all the avenues of dentistry, orthodontics is my favourite. It amazes me how people's lives change when you straighten their teeth.

Helping to create healthy beautiful smiles is something I have been a part of for more than 35 years. I take great pride in being part of a supportive team and enjoy working with clients of all ages! We have a lot of fun here, especially playing “Name that Tune!” I love seeing the beautiful smiles I've helped to create over the years, and look forward to the creations to come!

I have lived in Smithers for more than 30 years. When I'm not doing dentistry, I'm in my garden or on snowshoes out on an adventure!
